Come join our exciting Recovery Alberta team in a key leadership role as Manager of Inpatient Psychiatry (5N) and the Mental Health & Addiction Short Stay service within the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. If you are an energetic, strengths-based leader who is ready for temporary challenge of up to 1 year, this position may be for you! In this role, you will provide direction and leadership to a dynamic team in a fast-paced, patient-and family-centred environment with a focus on trauma-informed practice, as well as patient and staff safety. You will support the continuum of mental health and addiction care by working collaboratively with other departments and programs both within Recovery Alberta, as well as the broader healthcare and community system. Your clinical background, combined with leadership skills and your ability to develop effective working relationships will be keys to your success. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As the Manager of Inpatient Psychiatry (5N) and the Mental Health & Addiction Short Stay service within the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, you will work in close partnership with the Director and Psychiatry Department Head as well as other Recovery Alberta leaders. As the manager, you will support a safe, healthy and inclusive workplace while fostering a culture of patient and family-centred care and continuous quality improvement. You will be responsible for providing leadership to a team of healthcare professionals and accountabilities will include human, financial and physical resource management. Operational planning, recruitment and performance management in a unionized environment are other areas of focus in this position. Utilizing effective change management practices and managing initiatives to continually improve overall operations and programming is crucial. Working closely with psychiatrists, as well as other physicians and stakeholders while maintaining collaborative care is critical. You will be the first point of contact for patient/family concerns and feedback, as well as physician related requests and concerns. The typical hours of work are Mondays - Fridays from 0800 to 1615, however, due to the dynamic nature of this service, flexibility with addressing urgent and critical issues is required.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related health profession, as well as registration with an appropriate Alberta Regulated Health Profession is required. Five year's experience within mental health and/or addictions services is required. A minimum of five years of leadership experience, ideally within an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is required. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development must be evident.
Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills. Ability to identify, plan, implement and evaluate quality improvement projects is required. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with staff, physicians and other stakeholders.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing preferred. Training in non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention, First Aid preferred. Training and experience in change management is preferred.
