An exciting opportunity exists to grow and strengthen your skills and work at your full scope of practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse within a collaborative team at the Rockyview General Hospital. Unit 61A is a general medical unit. As a LPN on Unit 61A you will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals and support workers to promote patient care in a unit culture that values and respects individual team members and their expertise. The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to provide safe & effective patient care. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate: communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with the interdisciplinary team; decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills using sound nursing judgment; patient advocacy and patient teaching skills; principles of patient and family centered care; time management and prioritization skills; interpersonal conflict resolution skills and foster a positive environment with respect for each other, patients and families. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 6 months adult acute medical experience as an LPN in the last 2 years within AHS. Ability to manage the job classification of “heavy physical demand” level as per the AHS Job Demands Summary. Proven ability to function in an acute medical environment. Proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication and organization skills. Proficient with Connect Care and clinical documentation standards. Strong communication skills; must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.

Experience with managing patients with variable cognitive impairments. Current IV initiation skill, Level 1 CVC, PICC, and IV Direct (push) experience. Current N95 Fit Test. It’s Your Move certification. Current NVCI Certification. Experience working in a CoAct environment. Skin and wound care experience including VAC dressings. Participation in a unit or site based quality improvement or safety council or other unit workflow review committee.
