Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to support children with life limiting conditions and their families? Rotary Flames House (RFH), on the campus of Alberta Children’s Hospital offers just that. RFH is the only free-standing pediatric hospice in Alberta and supports children with progressive life-threatening illness from birth to 18 years of life, and their families by providing comprehensive palliative care. Pediatric palliative care is an active and total approach to care, embracing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual elements. Pediatric palliative care focuses on the enhancement of the quality of life for the child and support for the family. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be an active member of the RFH and Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) team. Within the context of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide direct care to children and families. You will utilize your palliative care expertise to provide ongoing assessment, care, education, and coordination of services to these children and families. Your practice will envelop the principals of family centered care working within a team and independently. Within this role you will demonstrate the following: Strong pediatric assessment and decision-making skills; excellence in interpersonal communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills; ability to work with diverse populations; demonstrated initiative and adaptability; and a compassionate attitude that conveys respect and dignity of all persons.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Previous experience working on an interdisciplinary team. 1-2 years of acute pediatric experience.
Experience with Palliative Care. Skilled in Pediatric Airway (invasive & non-invasive ventilation). Completed How to Care, What to Say. Completion of Pallium LEAP courses.
