The Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) at UAH supports research that improves care for Albertans. In this Licensed Practical Nurse CTU Research position, you will be assigned to the Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease Research Group (GILDR). The Division of Gastroenterology’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Research Group (GILDR) is a leading North America clinical research centre focused on gastrointestinal and liver clinical trials. The primary responsibility of this position is study management, including the screening and recruitment of potential study participants, providing patient care, obtaining informed consent, and completing protocol-specific procedures. These procedures include, but are not limited to, collecting blood samples from participants in accordance with study requirements.The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating participants’ ongoing follow-up visits, performing protocol-specific assessments, scheduling appointments, and dispensing study medication while ensuring strict adherence to protocol guidelines and regulatory requirements.In addition, the role involves providing education to participants enrolled in clinical research studies regarding their condition, treatment visit schedules, and the use of study-related data collection tools. The individual is responsible for ensuring completion of all required training on study procedures and maintaining accurate and timely documentation of such training.The position may also include the development of study-specific source documents and ensuring that all relevant documentation-such as laboratory results and hospital diagnostic reports-is received, reviewed, and maintained appropriately.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 2-3 years Clinical trial or Clinical research experience required. Highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic with proven problem-solving abilities. Demonstrates ability to take initiative and work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Ability to be flexible, multitask and work well under pressure. Effectively coordinate simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines. Work efficiently and in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, GCP and ICH guidelines, SOPs and Policies. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Effective communication skills. Precise documentation skills. Knowledge of MS Word & Excel, Imedidata and other Data Entry programs. Willingness to further professional knowledge by reading journals/books and attending rounds, training programs, etc., as necessary.

Understanding of common and complex gastroenterological and hepatological diseases, including conditions such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, and inflammatory bowel diseases and related conditions. Health Canada Division 5, GCP certification. Clinical Research Coordinator training through CITI. Experience in creating source documents. Phlebotomy. Experience with Connect Care and Netcare is an asset.
