Description
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centred care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. PCU 410 is a 28-bed unit providing care to primary hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty patients as well as general orthopedic patients. Patients are mostly received from the operating room, but may also come from the emergency department, and directly from medical clinics. We have collaborative care nursing on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health care aides working collaboratively. LPNs are expected to direct and monitor the care provided by health care aides and support their RN peers. This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Previous Arthroplasty / Surgery experience required. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated reliability required. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills are required.
