Description
An opportunity to join the Unit 64 Foothills Medical Center Orthopedic/Gen surgery nursing team working within the Collaborative Care nursing model. We strive to provide safe, compassionate, patient and family centered care, specializing in arthroplasty and general surgery. In collaboration with a strong multidisciplinary health care team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on Unit 64 provides holistic care to the orthopedic and general surgical patient. Working to full scope of practice, the Practical Nurse provides nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients to promote, maintain and restore health. The role includes patient handling and lifting, as well as performing clinical skills and specialized clinical competencies independently for the patient population.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in orthopedics and/or general surgery is required. Recent experience in managing PICC/CVC, PCA/nerve blocks, VAC dressings, TPN/PPN, drain care, working with orthopedic braces, and managing traction is required. Ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment required. Experience with Connect Care required. Ability to maintain effective and respectful working relationships required. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills, and the ability to work effectively as a team player required.
