Description
The 5F4 unit is a fast-paced Hematology/Oncology unit within the Medicine Program, specializing in hematological oncology care. The team offers comprehensive training, including advanced chemotherapy administration (OPREP and Beacon). The unit fosters a collaborative and supportive environment, helping new staff navigate their learning and transition smoothly. Due to the dynamic nature of the unit, there is a significant volume of diagnostic transfers, along with frequent transfusion support and chemotherapy administration. Ideal candidates will bring a positive attitude, a strong willingness to learn, and the energy to provide exceptional patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Must be able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on this very busy unit. In this position, you will be on your feed for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients up to 50 lbs. You will also be required to bend, lift, push and pull equipment. Compassionate and detail-oriented nurse with recent experience in an acute care practice setting and a strong clinical interest in Hematology/Oncology. Completed OPREP and Chemotherapy Training.
Excellent critical thinking, communication, accountability and time management skills, self-directed with the initiative to respond to evolving care needs and role demands.
