Description
Unit 21 is a dynamic, fast-paced Orthopedic & Urological Surgery unit that cares for a diverse patient population recovering from procedures such as joint replacements, fracture repairs, and other musculoskeletal surgeries, as well as a range of urological surgeries. Our patients often have complex needs, and our team is passionate about providing safe, compassionate, and patient- and family-centred care throughout every stage of recovery. Working in close collaboration with a strong multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe, competent, and ethical nursing care to promote, maintain, and restore health. The LPN contributes to assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized patient care in accordance with established policies and standards. The LPN role includes supporting patients and families through teaching and advocacy, collaborating with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff to ensure seamless, high-quality care. The role is physically demanding at times and includes safe patient handling and lifting as part of daily practice.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Recent clinical experience in acute medical or surgical care. Ability to work independently within scope of practice in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to maintain effective and respectful working relationships. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, and assessment skills. Ability to work effectively as a team player. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
Experience with Connect Care an asset. Previous experience in orthopedic and/or urological surgical nursing preferred.
