Licensed Practical Nurse

Tofield Continuing Care is a 50-bed unit located in a rural setting where the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works within an interdisciplinary team environment to provide client centered care. The LPN must be able to work to their full scope of practice, works under the direction of the Nurse in Charge but is required to provide leadership, including direction, supervision and client care coordination to unregulated staff. The LPN must have the ability to use critical thinking skills to plan, assess, implement and evaluate client centered care. This environment is suitable for candidates who have a strong interest and skills in providing care to the elderly client, including those diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease and other dementias.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Basic computer skills, good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated problem solving skills. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Able to work shift work. Able to meet the physical demands of the position. Must have an excellent attendance record.

Recent gerontology nursing experience and/or education an asset. Experience in a continuing care environment within the last three years. Experience with the RAI-MDS. Experience using the Connect Care system.
