The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families, and/or communities. The LPN is responsible to provide quality health care, while working at full scope of practice as noted by the CLPNA, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. This will ensure that comprehensive, coordinated, and continuous care is provided to patients and families. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Current CLPNA registration and practice permit required. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone required. Demonstrated organizational and clinical skills in addition to being self-directed and able to work collaboratively in a team environment required. Computer proficiency required. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Minimum 6 months recent nursing experience in an acute in-patient psychiatric setting required. Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in administering the Mental Status examination. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. Knowledge of the addiction and mental health continuum of care.

Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. IV Certification preferred. Working Knowledge or experience about the various therapeutic modalities i.e. CBT, DBT, Supportive therapy, Motivational interview. Knowledge/Understanding of DSM-IV and 5.
