We are looking for a licensed practical nurse with experience in patient and family-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-based care for the Primary Care Service Unit 5 North Psychiatry and the Short Stay Service at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. This position is primarily based on 5 North but can me moved between 5 North and Short Stay for operational reasons. As a licensed practical nurse (LPN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients with complex mental health and addiction issues. Working within the LPN scope of practice, you will provide addiction and mental health assessments for patients to determine physical and mental health stability, treatment planning and implementation, therapeutic interventions and monitoring of both patient physical and addiction/mental health issues. Documentation and evaluation of interventions are part of this role. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared visions and values of Recovery Alberta. You will demonstrate a knowledgeable and caring clinical practice that is grounded in addiction and mental health nursing from a recovery-oriented perspective; have strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrate time management, independent decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; and an ability to foster positive relationships within a team environment are all expectations of this role. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Current CLPNA registration and annual practice permit required. English language skills, both written and verbal required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated effective time management, independent decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; and an ability to foster positive relationships within a team environment are all expectations of this role.

2-3 years' recent experience on an Acute Care Mental Health & Addiction unit preferred. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and suicide intervention training preferred. Computer skills using computer applications/programs required by Recovery Alberta, would be an asset (e.g. Netcare, Outlook, Connect Care). Naloxone Administration training preferred.
