Description
Reporting to the Unit Manager in the department of Neuro Rehab, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) practices within their full scope providing direct care to patients in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry) ambulatory clinics. The LPN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients and families with the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health and preventing illness, injury and disability while facilitating the rehabilitation and recovery of function for their patients. The LPN provides both direct and indirect services to support the overall provision of care in the ambulatory Physiatry clinics. Direct care in the ambulatory clinics includes tasks such as assisting with transfers or patients requiring lifts, receiving patients, running charts, weighing patients, checking vital signs, preparing medication, taking brief medical history and/or assisting with tasks related to quality improvement or research projects. Indirect care and support to the clinics includes preparing exam rooms before, between and after patient visits and maintaining inventory. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Experience working as an LPN in a hospital setting is required. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills. Proven initiative, analytical thinking, and conflict resolution skills Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a healthcare team environment Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team and to give, request and accept direction as required. Intermediate computer skills including the use of Connect Care is a job requirement. Ability to perform all duties in accordance with related legislation. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks: lifting, pulling, walking and or sitting for long periods etc.
Recent experience in rehabilitation nursing, neurosciences nursing or acute medicine/surgery preferred. Demonstrated continuing education in neurosciences is preferred.
