Our collaborative interdisciplinary team provides care to pediatric patients with a wide range of medical, surgical, and psychiatric needs. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the organization's shared vision and values.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient/client change in status. Patient transfer assessment skills. Communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific patients/clients, and to relay patient/client information to physicians who are often off-site in a concise, accurate manner in order to facilitate the physician’s treatment decisions. Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment and to effectively contribute to patient/client care planning processes. Reliable and dependable. Strong written and verbal communication required. Demonstrated skills in conflict management. Ability to safeguard AHS information as private and confidential. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Basic computer skills. Ability to perform duties as outlined on the Physical Demand Statement (PDS) for the position.
Knowledge of new/current LPN Preferred 2-3 years acute care experience. Preference given to those who have inpatient Pediatrics experience. Proven technical and clinical skills pertinent trends in Pediatrics nursing preferred. Current pediatric IV therapy/experience preferred. Current knowledge of Cardio/Respiratory monitoring preferred. Pediatric Mental Health experience beneficial
