Description
The LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. 3E4 is an 18+ bed unit providing care to Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and General Surgery patients received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit and directly from home and/or surgery clinics. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The LPN is expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the Surgery Program.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Must have a minimum of 2 year of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and general surgery experience; must be flexible and adaptable to work in a fast paced and changing environment; CPR must be current; N95 fit tested; MLL modules must be up to date or in progress; Connect Care trained; must be able to work to full scope of practice and have all required clinical competencies up to date. Successful applicant will be held accountable to their professional practice. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds, must not have current activity restrictions, such as pulling, pushing, reaching and bending.
Current IV therapy, Pre-op/Post-op care protocols, Central line/PICC care, Ostomy care, basic surgical wound/drain care, complex wound care and negative pressure wounds (VAC dressing), NG tube insertion and management, TPN administration, PCA/PCEA/TAP management, Insulin infusion protocols and blood product administration. Strong patient teaching skills. Charge Nurse and Connect Care (EPIC) trained. Note: Rotation subject to change.
