Department variety of Ambulatory outpatient services, Laboratory, and Diagnostic Imaging services. This position is the “front line” representation in delivering care within the Emergency Department. Based on a primary health care model, the incumbent functions within a multidisciplinary team, and is responsible for the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient care. The incumbent performs a variety of nursing related duties in accordance with clinical policies and standards. The incumbent must have strong judgment and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to participate in inter-professional collaboration. This is an exciting opportunity at the Strathcona Community Hospital. The facility offers a 24/7 Emergency.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Proven ability to work within a team environment and effectively contribute to patient planning processes. Strong assessment and communication skills (verbal and written). Minimum 1 year working to the full scope of practice including but not limited to managing a multi patient bed assignment while working independently and with an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient cart. Minimum 1 year experience in an emergency/acute care setting, within the last 2 years and Connect Care experience.

Preference will be given to those applicants that have successful completed a post-basic study program as required within the scope of the assigned position (i.e. medication administration, IV start, etc.).
