Description
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. 3F2 is an 18+ bed Trauma Unit providing care to patients received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit and directly from home and/or surgery clinics. Decisions are made in collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The LPN is expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives, supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Must have >1 years Trauma experience in an acute care hospital. Must have ENT Flap experience, ACLS. Current IV therapy, Pre-op/Post-op care protocols, Central line/PICC care, basic surgical wound/drain care, complex wound care and negative pressure wounds (VAC dressing), NG tube insertion and management, TPN administration, PCA/PCEA/TAP management, Insulin infusion protocols and blood product administration. Connect Care (EPIC) trained. Note: Rotation subject to change. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds, with no current activity restrictions, such as pulling, pushing, reaching and bending.
