Description
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly organized individual for the position of Temporary Full Time Laundry Worker II. This position is located at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Center. Reporting to the Manager of Linen and Environmental Services, this position performs a variety of tasks associated with the preparation, washing, and distribution of linen and garments following approved work practices. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting, sorting, clarifying, and weighing soiled linen and apparel, loading, unloading, and operating washing equipment, folding, sorting, and stacking linen and garments, loading and operating other equipment as necessary (i.e., irons, pressers, etc.), loading and transferring linen carts, maintaining department records as required, making recommendations on required laundry supplies, and cleaning floors, walls, and windows in the laundry area as necessary. Physical requirements of the position include heavy lifting, reaching, bending, pushing carts, and standing for long periods of time.
As a Laundry staff, you will be responsible for transporting, preparing and washing soiled linen and distributing clean linen and apparel. Your typical duties may include folding, repairing, pressing, stacking and storing linen supplies and apparel; sorting and weighing soiled linen; loading, unloading and operating washing and drying equipment; preparing surgical textile packs; monitoring and adjusting workflow and volume to maximize equipment utilization. You will ensure equipment is working properly, report potential hazards to your Working Leader and you may also provide training or orientation to Environmental or Laundry staff.
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of computers and smartphones. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift up to 25 lbs and push and pull up to 50 lbs of force.
Must read, write, speak, and follow written and verbal instructions in English to work safely. Ability to climb ladders/step stools, squat, bend, and reach in all directions (including overhead). Must have sufficient hand strength to perform repetitive wiping, wringing, and gripping motions. General knowledge of Laundry cleaning techniques and methods is required. Must wear personal protective equipment such as masks (facial hair may interfere with achieving a proper seal), eye protection, gloves, and gowns for long periods of time. Dependable, cooperative, with a customer service attitude and able to work with minimal supervision. Basic computer and smartphone knowledge required. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Knowledge of hospital housekeeping policy and procedures. Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting in health care environment. Customer service experience. Leadership experience such as working leader, shift lead, trainer or equivalent.
