Instructor

The Clinical Instructor provides leadership in planning, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of educational activities for nursing. Responsible for delivery of programs based on identified needs, including orientation, compulsory education programs, clinical development and continuing education. The Sheldon Chumir Health Centre, located in downtown Calgary, offers a wide range of services including urgent care, mental health, public health, home care, and community outreach. The Urgent Care is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will provide care for unscheduled non-life threatening health conditions to a diverse population, as part of an integrated community service delivery model.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

CRNA registration required. ACLS certification required (from Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation). Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required. Program development, data analytics & research skills required. Minimum of five years of current experience in Emergency Nursing or Urgent Care Nursing required. Strong computer literacy. Minimum 1 year of prior teaching experience, with ability to use adult teaching & learning principles. Ability to lead through mentorship, preceptorship & example required. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills required. Flexibility to meet staff needs required. Demonstrated experience & ability to work in a community based multi-team environment required. Demonstrated strength in developing collaborative, effective working relationships with clients of cultural and socio-economic diversity. Experience with developing and implementing quality improvement projects of varying complexity Ability to work independently and interdependently. Proficiency working with Connect Care (EPIC) ASAP module.

Masters degree in a Health Care related discipline preferred. Instructor certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CTAS strongly preferred. Previous CNE experience strongly preferred.
