Assisted Living Alberta is dedicated to Enhancing Care in the Community, helping people be healthy, well and independent in their homes and communities. Continuing Care Edmonton Zone (CCEZ) provides services through five main program areas: Home Living (HCC Type 1 & 2), Supportive Living (CCH Type B), Facility Living (CCH Type A), Palliative and End of Life Care, CHOICE & Adult Day Programs and Transition Services. The instructor is a member of the Continuing Care (CC) Education & Practice Development team in Edmonton. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating orientation and education. The education provided by this position supports the clinical practice of frontline staff, while collaborating and coordinating with operational areas. Plans, creates, delivers, maintains and evaluates orientation and education. Collaborates with programs to identify gaps in knowledge; promotes clinical competence while addressing gaps. Collaborates with stakeholders to plan and implement education related to changes in policy, procedures, protocols, clinical practice initiatives and technology that impacts and supports best practice and quality improvement. Fosters leadership/mentorship support to team members including program-based educators/clinical nurse educators, professional practice leads, clinical quality consultants and frontline staff. Provides in time learning that impacts clinicians to respond to priorities and learning needs. Creates and maintains clinical resources. The instructor adheres to a professional Code of Ethics, policies and procedures that guide our work. As a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Alberta, the instructor is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice as defined by their regulatory College.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CNRA). A minimum of 3 years of recent health care experience. Experience as a facilitator/educator and knowledge of adult learning principles. Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Valid driver’s license and a vehicle in good repair for work-related travel. Demonstrated strong and effective communication and organizational skills. Leadership skills including demonstrated ability to work with various partners. Ability to inspire, influence change and build confidence in others. Use critical thinking to guide decisions. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development is an asset. Physical Exertion: Frequent physical demands including lifting, pulling and pushing, and moving equipment; standing for extended periods of time; sitting for extended periods of time is required. Able to carry supply bags which weigh approx. 35-50 lbs. Possibility of shift work and extended hours.

Background as an NSWOC or wound care/edema management specialist. Previous work as a Case Manager, Professional Practice Lead or Instructor in a Continuing Care setting. Demonstrated project management skills. Change management training and experience. Experience with using data to support quality improvement. Technical skills in computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Teams and Zoom.
