The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is a leadership position reporting to the Unit Manager of the Adult Pre-Admission Clinic and Short Stay Surgery Unit. The CNE supports the delivery of high-quality patient care by enhancing and supporting staff development, education, and clinical practice within these programs. This role is responsible for orientation, continuing education, competency development, and evaluation of nursing practice. The CNE also supports the Level 3 Operating Room (OR) and PACU CNE team when required. As an educator and role model, the CNE fosters an environment of clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement aligned with AHS values and the Level 3 OR mission. Coordinate and facilitate staff orientation, education, and competency training in Adult Pre-Admission Clinic and Short Stay Surgery. Provide expertise, guidance, and mentorship to nursing staff to ensure consistent, evidence-based practice. Lead and support Quality Improvement initiatives, including patient safety, Hand Hygiene compliance, and CPR/ACE module training. Collaborate with Unit Managers and the Patient Care Manager (PCM) on process improvement and clinical standardization. Support staff with Connect Care education and specialized competencies relevant to preoperative and short-stay surgical care. Demonstrate leadership in change management, teamwork facilitation, and conflict resolution.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Minimum 5 years’ peri-anesthesia or perioperative nursing experience. Recent experience in pre-admission and/or short stay surgical care. Demonstrated competency in the care of surgical patients with complex medical needs. In-depth knowledge of Connect Care applications related to peri-anesthesia and perioperative workflows. Previous experience in staff teaching, program planning, and clinical orientation. Knowledge of adult education principles Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Demonstrated ability in problem solving, decision making, teamwork, and resource management. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) (must be maintained throughout employment).

Previous Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) experience. Perioperative/OR nursing experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel). Active PANANAC membership. National Certification in Peri-Anesthesia Nursing (PANC(c)).
