Description
As an instructor you will have the opportunity to create, implement and assess staff education and development activities that support patient care throughout the surgical journey. As the instructor for pre-operative assessment clinic, PACU and Day Surgery you will support best practices that result in quality outcomes for surgical patients. You will work closely with managers to identify learning opportunities and create and refine resources to address learning needs. You will have the opportunity to educate newly hired RN's and LPN's as well as supporting the professional development and lifelong learning of experienced staff members. This role requires an understanding of the principles of adult education. Your excellent written and verbal communications skills will assist in your ability to effectively present educational materials. You will serve as a clinical and professional role model with advocacy for patients, families and staff.
As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum three years of current (within last five years) clinical experience in acute care including at least one years' experience in PACU, Emergency or Critical Care. Extensive knowledge of pre-operative and post-operative patient care. Strong clinical competencies in Post Anesthetic Recovery, Emergency or Critical Care. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong intrapersonal skills with a positive reinforcement style. Proven problem solving and prioritization skills. Self-directed, and takes the initiative to improve patient care. Leadership skills evidenced by completion of leadership courses. Knowledge of AHS policies and procedures and ability to identify applicability to unit staff.
Experience in the development of practice documents (SOP). 3 years of experience in PACU, Critical Care or Emergency. 2 years of experience in clinical education. 3 years pre/post operative surgical experience. Project work experience an asset.
