Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Instructor / Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) provides leadership in planning, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of educational activities for all staff, including orientation, compulsory educational programs, clinical development and continuing education. The CNE fulfills a key role within PLC AMH Program as a practitioner, consultant, researcher, educator and a leader. The position works collaboratively with the operational leaders and Assistant Head Nurse to enhance liaison between the MH Short Stay Unit (SSU), Psychiatric Emergency Services and various stakeholders including other units and departments. The CNE is responsible for delivery of programs based on identified needs which includes legislation, continued competencies, quality improvement, strategic plans and objectives and organizational needs. The CNE participates in the development and ongoing maintenance of zonal educational programs and clinical policies, protocols and procedures. The CNE triages the daily educational needs of the SSU team and assigns priorities as needed. The incumbent will work directly with staff to enhance their knowledge base and clinical skills in specific areas. They will assist staff in applying research findings in solving problems of patient care. The CNE also supports Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) by working closely with the Assistant Head Nurse. The CNE also supports Calgary zone with Medical Capabilities training for all staff of Addiction and Mental health. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator in support of both nursing staff and the multi-disciplinary clinical team. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in acute inpatient Addiction and Mental Health required. Previous experience with a variety of treatment modalities in mental health required. Previous experience championing or rolling out initiatives required. Previous experience in a teaching or education role preferred. Proven exemplary communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities, along with the ability to work effectively in a self-directed environment are required. Demonstrated skills in conflict management.

Previous experience with a variety of research methodologies preferred.
