Description
The Oncology Social Work Team at the new Arthur J.E. Child Cancer Centre is seeking compassionate and experienced Social Workers II to join the team on a casual basis to support our inpatient services. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive and innovative program dedicated to helping patients and their loved ones navigate the emotional, practical, and social challenges associated with cancer. As a Social Worker II, you will play a key role in supporting patients and caregivers by addressing the social determinants of health and helping them access the resources and supports they need throughout their cancer journey. Key responsibilities include: Referral triage, screening, intake, resource counselling, and supportive counselling. Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to enhance the patient and family experience. Developing and facilitating psychoeducational groups. Participating in quality improvement initiatives, research, and service evaluation activities. Engaging in ongoing professional development and continuing education. Supporting the orientation and mentorship of new staff and students. Contributing to a collaborative team environment through strong communication, organization, and time management skills. Connecting patients and families with community-based resources. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. Applicants must be available to work a minimum of two (2) weekdays per week. Regular work hours are scheduled between 8:00a.m. and 16:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.
Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart & Stroke Foundation. A minimum 1 year of post-degree (Social Work) experience working in an urban adult cancer care setting, palliative care, and outpatient care. In-depth knowledge of advance care planning, income security programs, housing, and support services. Experience providing supportive counseling. Experience with referral management and caseload prioritization. Experience supporting and facilitating family meetings. Experience providing trauma-informed, patient- and family-centred care to individuals and families coping with complex medical and psychosocial challenges. Demonstrated skills in assessment, intervention, system navigation and case management. Demonstrated dedication to professional development. Proficient with Microsoft Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint)
Minimum 3 years' experience in an adult inpatient healthcare setting and 2 years' experience supporting adults with cancer. Completion of AHS Connect Care (Epic) training for Social Workers. Recent experience providing virtual care (telephone, Zoom, or Telehealth). Knowledge of Alberta community and financial resources, and supports related to grief, adjustment, and loss. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and collaborate effectively across healthcare teams and community organizations.
