The Critical Care Health Care Aide is to assist with the provision of direct and indirect patient care services under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Other responsibilities and key skills include organization and maintenance of specified equipment and supplies to support patient care in the critical care units. Proficiency in accessing and utilizing computerized systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective communication with the inter-professional team. Ability to respond to emergencies and to perform as a member of the Code Blue response team. Maintaining professional practice including but not limited to mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, promotion of a positive supportive work environment, and demonstration of professional accountability. Promotion of a healthy, respectful and safe practice environment.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Experience with patient and family centered care and collaborative practice preferred. Able to prioritize work and cope with frequent interruptions. Self-motivated and enthusiastic learner. Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional image, manage stressful situations with empathy and to remain calm, courteous and tactful at all times.
