The Health Care Aide (HCAs) provide direct, client-centered care under the direction of regulated health professionals such as Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). HCAs deliver care in home, community and lodge settings, supporting individuals to maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing personal care and assistance with activities of daily living in alignment with individualized care plans. Supporting mobility, transfers, feeding, hygiene, grooming, and dressing. Delivering respite support to families and caregivers. Provides emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, being friendly and sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner. Performing authorized health-related tasks as outlined in the care plan, such as medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, dressing changes, and therapeutic exercises. Provides Housekeeping services that are essential to the Client's Activities of Daily Living in their immediate living space to increase the prospects for maintaining the client in their Home/Community. Promoting patient- and family-centered care grounded in respect, compassion, and professionalism. HCAs play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality, and culturally responsive care, while upholding the values, standards, and vision of Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) and the regulatory expectations of the CLHA. Please note this position is approximately 133 km SW outside of Calgary City Limits and or approximately 80 km SW outside of Lethbridge City Limits.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Health Care Aides (HCAs) are regulated health professionals who must meet the hiring, education, and licensure requirements established by the College of LPNs & HCAs (CLHA), the CLHA determines education, certification, registration, and licensure requirements in accordance with the Health Professions Act (HPA). HCAs are responsible for maintaining active registration and meeting ongoing regulatory requirements, including entry-to-practice standards, continuing competence expectations, and adherence to the CLHA Code of Ethics. The candidate must have BCLS-HCP from Heart and Stroke Foundation within the last 12 months. The candidate must have Basic First Aid (Level 1) within the last 36 months. The candidate must be effective in verbal and written English, have well developed time management skills, demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a team.
