Description
Reporting to the CTU Associate Manager, the Hematology Head Nurse provides effective leadership of the Hematology team and acts as a resource for staff. They ensure smooth functioning of the team by providing daily guidance and direction to nursing staff, clinical research coordinators, and clinical trials assistants. Working collaboratively with the team, they ensure a balanced workload, reallocating workload or resources within the group as required, and act in accordance with hospital guidelines, professional standards, and collective agreements. They conduct staff skill assessments to determine clinical competence, drawing in the CTU Educator and CTU CTC Lead as needed. They act as Shift Supervisor and refer issues of a financial or human resource nature to the CTU Managers. They support Connect Care protocol build work in collaboration with the CTU Connect Care Working Lead and provide coverage of treatment, clinic, or office RN duties when required.
As a Head Nurse, you will be responsible for the promotion of effective relationships within the interprofessional team, while both coordinating and supervising care delivery, providing clinical guidance and supporting the development of staff in a resourceful and effective manner. As Head Nurse you will also assist in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of progressive and comprehensive programs, policies and procedures to ensure a high standard of care for patients (clients, residents). You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
RN, BScN. Minimum 5 years recent oncology and clinical trials nursing experience including hematological cancer disease, diagnosis and treatment. Experience with the delivery of chemotherapy/biotherapy/cancer treatments, knowledge of mechanisms of action and their adverse event profiles. Exceptional organization, teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Computer proficiency in patient charting/management platforms (e.g. Connect Care) and general MS Office programs. Applicants must be able to perform tasks that require standing, sitting, bending, stretching, and lifting. Patient assistance, pushing and pulling mobile computers or carts, and lifting boxes or equipment up to 40 lbs. may be required. Good Clinical Practice, ICH and Health Canada Regulatory training will be required if not current. Lead/Charge nurse experience and leadership training. Baccalaureate preparation. Clinical trials membership or certification (e.g., SoCRA, ACRP). Preference will be given to those with O-PREP oncology training.
