The South Health Campus has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services, the Dietitian I - NICU and Pediatric community clinics is responsible for direct client and family care for pediatric nutrition counselling and direct client and family care for neonates admitted to the NICU. As an integral member of multidisciplinary health care teams, he/she completes nutrition screening, assessment, formulates nutrition care plans, provides nutrition support and appropriate nutrition education for clients and their caregivers, documents nutrition care/recommendations, evaluates outcomes and communicates with relevant health care professionals. This Dietitian I uses nutrition counseling and strategies with a strong family centered focus to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. The Dietitian I will play an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing and medical staff to ensure the delivery of consistent, accurate, evidence-based nutrition information. Responsibilities will also include participation on zone and/or provincial NS committees and/or research projects as required.

As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

Parenteral Nutrition (PN) restricted activity to prescribe PN. Two or more years of experience in clinical nutrition required, preferably in NICU or pediatrics. Experience/knowledge of complex pediatric medical diagnoses. Engages in activities that promote professional growth. Demonstrated commitment to providing quality service, excellence in communication skills, ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively, ability to apply knowledge, skills and judgment required for independent practice, problem solving and time management skills.

Strong understanding of infant and childhood nutrition and developmental feeding behaviors. Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality nutrition service in a patient and family-centered care model. Experience in clinical pediatric nutrition outpatient setting.
