Description
Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services, Pediatrics, Calgary Zone this Dietitian I is responsible for direct care and acts as a consultant for pediatric patients and their families with a focus on nephrology, urology and complex care in both outpatient and inpatient settings and will support the Intensive Care Unit one day per week. This dietitian is an integral member of several interdisciplinary health care teams providing nutrition consultation & expertise for all modes of nutrition care: oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition. He/she is available for weekend remote on call shifts as scheduled. This Dietitian actively integrates patient-and family-centered care principles into practice; has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills; has excellent time management and prioritization skills; and maintains continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities. This dietitian has a strong background in providing & leading evidence-informed nutrition care and plays an active role in the education of nutrition interns, nursing and medical staff. Responsibilities will also include participation on zone and/or provincial NS committees and/or research projects as required for meeting Provincial NS Child Health Strategy & Standards targets.
As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.
Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).
Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe Parenteral Nutrition 10 (1) (c) Active or eligible for CDA Restricted Activity Permit to prescribe a Schedule 1 Drug 10 (1) (d) Minimum five or more years of experience in a pediatric tertiary care hospital Experience working with patients with complex pediatric medical diagnosis across the age continuum from infancy to adolescence in both inpatient and outpatient settings Experience with pediatric nutrition support via enteral and parenteral means. Experience with and keen interest in critical care nutrition Strong skill set in nutrition counselling with patients and families.
