Description

As a Diagnostic Sonographer with the Echocardiography (ECHO) lab at the RAH, you will be responsible for the coordination and performance of Cardiac Ultrasound examinations, including adult transthoracic, transesophageal and dobutamine stress and exercise stress echocardiograms. In this position you will be responsible for inpatient and outpatient tests as well as portable echocardiograms. Under limited supervision, you will perform standardized and complex procedures for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Duties also include teaching ultrasound students and medical residents. Start date is flexible. Position may be started sooner than the target start date.
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.
Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Successful candidate must have excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, push, pull stretchers with patients and equipment, and lift and carry up to 50lbs.
Good decision-making skills, capable of showing initiative and maintaining a cooperative and flexible attitude. Displays tact, courtesy and empathy when dealing with patients and families. The ability to work independently as well as effectively with others in a wide variety of clinical and educational situations. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written skills. Working knowledge of computer applications and familiarity with Connect Care is an asset.
