Reporting to the Program Manager, the Finance Team Lead/Coordinator provides strategic and operational financial leadership to the Acute Care Program Office within the Calgary Zone. This role is accountable for comprehensive financial oversight, budget development, forecasting, variance analysis, physician compensation financial administration, and resource stewardship for a complex program portfolio of approximately $35 million. The position ensures financial integrity, transparency, and alignment with Alberta Health Services (AHS) strategic priorities and the AHS Business Plan. Serving as a trusted advisor to program and clinical leadership, the incumbent translates complex financial data into actionable insights that support clinical operations, sustainability planning, and strategic decision-making. In addition to financial leadership, the role is responsible for recruitment, team leadership, and coordination of finance operations. The Finance Lead & Operations Coordinator builds and mentors a high-performing team, strengthens internal controls, supports audit and reporting requirements, and promotes effective, efficient, and accountable service delivery across the program. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional accounting designation (CPA) preferred. Minimum 5-7 years of progressive financial management experience in a complex healthcare or public sector environment. Demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar operating budgets. Proven leadership experience, including recruitment, team development, performance management, and coordination of staff. Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams in a dynamic environment. Advanced proficiency in financial analysis, variance reporting, forecasting, and financial modeling. Experience using enterprise financial systems (e.g., eManager or comparable platforms). Strong knowledge of public sector financial governance, internal controls, and accountability frameworks. Preferred: Experience supporting physician compensation models or large workforce financial portfolios. Experience in healthcare program financial management within AHS or a comparable organization. Experience supporting governance committees or leadership teams.
