As a member of the Cardiology Outpatient Clinics team, this Card Tech I position is a skilled technical position involving non-invasive cardiac testing procedures to investigate cardiac abnormalities and level of function. Testing requires use of physiologic recorders such as electrocardiographs, Holter monitors/analysis, event monitors, and stress testing equipment. The Cardiology technologist must possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate ability to clearly communicate in stressful situations, and consistently execute attention to detail in work performance. The successful applicant will; perform 12/15 lead ECG recordings throughout the entire Royal Alexandra Hospital site, perform exercise stress testing under the supervision of an attending Physician ( including pharmacological stress testing), be proficient in organizing, applying, initiating, downloading/scanning, and analyzing arrhythmia and event monitors independently, have knowledge and ability to accurately interpret various recordings and promptly report abnormalities requiring immediate attention to the responsible physician, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment utilized within the department, comply with all AHS policies/procedures/guidelines, be responsible for self-identifying professional development needs and competencies thereby seeking appropriate learning opportunities and critically reflecting on abilities and practices, and will complete data entry/scheduling tests as required. In addition to the above work requirements, physical demands of the job include sitting and standing for prolonged periods, lifting and pushing office/medical supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, using repetitive motions, bending, and reaching frequently. As a Cardiology Technologist I, you will prepare the patients (clients, residents) for non-invasive cardiac testing to investigate cardiac abnormalities and level of function, including Holter Monitoring, Exercise Tolerance Testing and Ambulatory Monitoring. You will explain procedures and educate patients on equipment function as required as well as collect client history for procedures and document information for physicians. You will analyze and summarize test results, and generate reports for physician interpretation. You will provide expertise in the set-up, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and will be required to implement resuscitation measures when necessary. You will precept, orient new staff and students and provide input into the evaluation of cardiology trainees and/or students. You will also serve as a clinical resource by providing information regarding cardiology technology to staff and patients.

Completion of certificate from an accredited school of Cardiology Technology. Active or eligible registration with the Alberta Society of Registered Cardiology Technologist (ASRCT). Active or eligible registration with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists Cardiology Technology (CSCT). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Proof of Graduation from a recognized school for Cardiology Technologists (British Columbia Institute of Technology, Stenberg College, etc. ) required. Current registered member (in good standing) with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologist (CSCT); active registration (in good standing) must be maintained throughout employment. Current registered member (in good standing) with the Alberta Society of Registered Cardiology Technologists (ASRCT): active registration (in good standing) must be maintained throughout employment. Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required and maintained throughout employment. Excellent communication techniques and strong interpersonal skills required.

High degree of customer service, problem solving, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills are essential. Two years recent experience in a clinical setting is preferred with preference given to applicants who have proficient knowledge in Holter/Event monitor analysis and Exercise Stress Testing. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Connect Care workflows pertaining to ECG/Stress/and Holter preferred.
