Description
AHS provides alternative job opportunities for those International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who are not able to obtain independent licensure on their own and/or are unable to obtain a residency position. Clinical Assistants are important members of the collaborative care team at Alberta Health Services (AHS); functioning as mid-level providers under the supervision and direction of physician supervisor(s) to provide acute care coverage within our hospitals, making a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Clinical Assistants are registered for supervised practice with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) under the Limited Practice Registry and provide clinical support under the direction of AHS Medical Staff. In this position you will deliver care to patients at the Alberta Children's Hospital within a multidisciplinary team in Pediatric Oncology.
This is an alternate provider role in which the successful candidate will obtain a limited medical license issued from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), and will work under the direction of supervising physicians within a multidisciplinary team setting to deliver acute patient care in the section of Pediatric Oncology/BMT at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. The candidate will work alongside other members of the section including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and dieticians to provide clinical care to complex pediatric patients. Clinical research is important in this field of practice, and the care of children registered on research trials is an important part of the role. Appropriate supervision and support is provided. Permanent Resident. Applicants must be a graduate of a medical school located outside of Canada and the United States, listed in the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Directory (IMED). As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have completed at least one full year (ie: May 1st to April 30th) of hands- on training after having obtained his/her medical degree. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years. As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Canada with minimum required scores of 7.0 in each of the components within 24 months prior to registration. As a requirement for licensure by the CPSA, applicants must have taken and passed at least Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam, level 1 (MCCQE1).
As Required.
Experience in Pediatric Oncology or Pediatric Hematology are greatly desired. However, those with experience in adult oncology or adult Hematology are also welcomed. Experience in pediatrics is seen as an important asset. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
