This position supports our palliative client in the community and hospital navigate their end of live care. Together with collaboration from Home Care and other Health Care providers, this team works to arrange resources and provides hands on care to clients in the community while supporting both clients and their families during end of life journeys.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

A minimum of two years practical nursing experience (equivalent to a 1.0 FTE); preference for palliative care experience and or EOL care Must have a minimum of 1-3 years of community experience and/or 1-3 years of acute medical or oncology nursing experience within the past five years Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work in an inter-professional team Ability to prioritize and organize many details in a timely and flexible manner Ability to work in a self-directed environment, independently, using sound professional judgment Effective decision making and critical thinking skills are required Proficiency in electronic communication and documentation including Microsoft office applications. Must be physically able to perform all aspects of the position in accordance with the Hazard Identification Assessment and Control (HIAC) form. This includes the ability to lift 25lbs, walk a minimum of 3km/shift, and able to tolerate bending, lifting, twisting, in accordance with Move Safe training. This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.

LEAP Program Training Home or Community care experience (recent 1-3years) Connect Care experience Understanding of Palliative and EOL medication management.
