Wainwright is a vibrant and friendly rural community of around 7,000 located in east-central Alberta on highways 14 and 41. It is known as a major service center for the agriculture, oil and gas industries and is home to Canadian Forces Base Wainwright. A community of delightful contrasts, it is a township boasting a variety of attractive neighbourhoods from charming older districts lined with trees to steadily expanding new residential subdivisions. You will be conveniently close to inviting parks, modern playgrounds and numerous recreational amenities including the Peace Memorial Multiplex with a walking track and climbing wall, pool, weight training facilities, dance studio, meeting rooms and banquet halls. The Wainwright Health Centre contains a 20 bed acute care medical/surgical unit, 2 bed obstetrical suite, and 24/7 Emergency Department, in addition to an OR, day surgery unit and cardiac wellness services. It is mandatory that all med/surg nurses take the L&D/postpartum education if you don’t already have it.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Recent experience working within an acute care/obstetrics/emergency area/department within the last year required. Acute care/OB/ER clinical leadership experience required (within one year). Charge nurse experience required, within one year. Demonstrates understanding of patient flow and capacity management from a site/unit level. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and successful conflict management strategies. Demonstrates excellent organizational skill and the ability to work under pressure. Demonstrates excellence in working collaboratively. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to organize and lead meetings/capacity huddles, providing direction and establishing a plan for the capacity demands. Keen attention to detail. Experience with Connect Care

Charge Nurse Experience is preferred (within the last year). Recent experience, within the last year, in emergency and/or obstetrics. ACLS, NRP, FHS, internal labour & delivery and post-partum education program
