Do you have an interest in developing and supporting high performing clinical teams? The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is of paramount importance for the Central Zone Rural Acute Care sites. Under the direction of the acute care manager, the CRN works with the Clinical Nurse Educators (CNE), and charge nurse to support staff development in all facets of rural nursing and optimize team function. The CRN uses highly developed clinical, organizational and leadership skills while problem-solving and promoting excellence in nursing practice in programmatic areas such as Acute Care, Emergency, and Palliative Care. With in-depth knowledge and skills, strong judgment, and clinical experience in rural practice, the CRN assists in providing solutions for complex health-care issues and identifying expert colleagues from other disciplines, departments and across the zone as resources. The CRN provides expertise and leadership in the development and implementation of local of clinical guidelines and protocols; promotes the use of evidence; provides expert support and consultation and facilitates change management under the direction of the acute care manager. The CRN role provides leadership to support high-quality, safe practice environments. The CRN uses expertise in project management, administrative and organizational skills and research in leading new clinical initiatives, maintaining standards, facilitating audits, supporting coordination of orientation for new staff including helping track their developmental and educational goals. The CRN aligns works with other CRNs, CNEs and leadership within rural facilities across the Zone and within AHS.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum 5 years current clinical experience in a rural Acute Care setting. A demonstrated passion for rural nursing and development of staff. Demonstrated clinical leadership especially in a rural acute care setting. Experience demonstrated with resource and time management. Computer literacy in MS Office applications. Evidence of current and ongoing leadership, research into best practice and change management. A background that has experience in Adult Learning principles.

A post-graduate degree in Nursing, Education, Leadership desirable. Public speaking skills in small and large group settings.
