Description
The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centred Care, and Innovation. These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. Reporting to the Unit Manager - Bone and Joint Clinic, this position is responsible for the day-to-day organization and coordination of a designated Orthopedic Surgeon and their patients. As the first point of contact for patient and / or a referring physician's office, the incumbent must handle a fast pace of work with concurrent demands to arrange clinic appointments, referrals to other clinics, scheduling of further investigative testing and tracking of charts. The incumbent will also support the Surgeon on assigned clinic days. This role functions with minimal supervision and direction from the Unit Manager. You will be responsible to assess, prioritize and synchronize complex physician schedules which may include operating time, outpatient clinic time, call schedule, educational rounds, research/committee meetings, conferences, and away time. As part of your team, you will collaborate with the registered nurse case manager, to liaise with patients & referring providers to schedule & confirm referrals, initial assessments, procedures, follow up appointments, re-bookings and investigative testing as needed. As a successful candidate, you must demonstrate critical thinking, manage time effectively, be flexible to changing team dynamics while being detailed oriented. You should understand organizational policies, have a strong commitment to patient satisfaction, be able to foster and promote teamwork while collaborating to manage and resolve confidential and complex situations.
As an Administrative Support IV, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.
Some post-secondary education.
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Unit Clerk or Medical Office Assistant Certificate. Medical Terminology Course. Minimum 2 years of experience as an AS4/MOA in a hospital/clinic setting (within last 5 years). Minimum 2 years' experience working as an SDC. Minimum 1 year experience using Waitlist & Referrals Management. Minimum 1 year experience using EPIC in an Ambulatory Clinic setting. Proficiency using EPIC, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), SharePoint, Netcare. Demonstrated ability to problem solve, multi-task and work independently. Needs to be self-directed, critical thinker, have effective time management and detail oriented. Utilize effective communication techniques (correct use of business language, spelling, grammar, proofreading, and telephone etiquette).
Completed Connect Care Course - Clinic Medical Assistant, Schegistrar, Referrals Coordinator, Template Builder, Private MOA. Previous Orthopedic Surgery experience. Experience using Connect Care Media Manager - for scanning documents. Previous Experience Booking External OR demonstrated knowledge of the CPSA Guidelines. Accurate keyboarding skills with ability to type 40 words per minute. Adhere to AHS Code of Conduct & Confidentiality Policy.
