Description
As part of AMH Supported Housing, the Addiction Counsellor III will join a multi-disciplinary team in providing quality, client focused, culturally appropriate outreach services. The role is responsible for supporting individuals who are residing in one of the Rapid Housing Initiative sites and who require high-intensity community-based service in the Edmonton zone. The AC III is responsible for bringing a holistic approach to comprehensive assessment, intervention and evaluation that maintains the uniqueness of individuals within a Recovery Oriented service delivery model. Assertive and persistent outreach as well as individual and group interventions are used to engage program participants and facilitate recovery from substance use as well as other addiction and mental health concerns and create a planning partnership to achieve the highest level of community functioning with the least ongoing professional supports. Essential to the skillset of this position will be an understanding of how addiction/substance use impacts mental health and the ability to maintain secure, long term housing. The incumbent must have methods of successful engagement and assessment skills and thorough understanding, demonstration, and implementation of Recovery Oriented care. Concurrent Capable practice is an expectation. Interventions designed for individuals will be based on their presentation and personally defined goals. The AC III will be responsible for direct client care in coordination with teammates and cooperation with housing providers and agency staff. The AC III will also participate in innovative, evidence-informed practice and relevant research/evaluation projects and initiatives and will be able to participate in community development and capacity building activities that will promote the development of an enhanced continuum of effective AMH services.
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Current CPR (BLS Level C - Health Care Provider). Current NCI - Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification. A driver's license and access to a vehicle. Client transportation, where appropriate, is required. 3-5 years' experience in a community mental health/addictions setting; preference given to those who have experience working with housing sites. Excellent communication and self-management skills. Experience working with multiple partners. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
