Description
The Lethbridge Youth Treatment Program is looking to recruit an Addictions Counselor III to join our multidisciplinary team who work with young people (12-17) and their families in an in-patient treatment environment. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with their clients, using a recovery model approach, to develop therapeutic goals that mitigate problematic substance use and its impacts as well as improve mental health and individual and family functioning. The ACIII will support clients to identify individualized recovery-based goals that may assist clients to optimize their mental health, develop coping skills, employ relapse prevention and refusal strategies, build resilience and capacity, develop natural and community support, and increase the individual and family’s abilities to navigate recovery. The successful candidate will facilitate individual counselling, provide client care and support, facilitate recreation and community access, engage in family work, deliver group counselling, support client skill development, and provide role modeling and supervision to the youth. They will also collaborate closely with all team members to ensure the delivery of a concurrent and family-centered approach. The position requires evening and weekend work. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Class IV license - required within 6 months of hiring date. First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention.
Any outdoor, watersport or climbing certification. One year experience providing care to Youth in a bed-based care setting. One year experience providing care to individuals with addictions. Preference will be given to those candidates who have previous experience (2 years or more) working with families in an inpatient or outpatient capacity
