Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Litigation, the candidate will provide support to the Global Claims team with administrative tasks and fact-finding. The Global Claims team handles claims for bodily injury, cargo claims and material damages to property (either in defense or as a subrogation).
Under supervision, the candidate will be responsible for handling certain claims up to a determined value as well as participate in the claims’ processing. Opportunity to be considered for the contender to eventually evolve to a position of General Claims Specialist (Band D)
- Opening files and updating database and file management system.
- Maintaining and reporting of claims statistics monthly.
- As assigned by the Senior Counsel or by the Global Claims Specialist, assist in the investigation, evaluation and validation of claims, while liaising with various internal and external stakeholders.
- under the supervision of the Senior Counsel or the Global Claims Specialist:
- Function as the primary point of contact
- Analyze, evaluate, and determine liability and/or recovery potential (i.e.: assess damages and establish loss reserves or recovery objective)
- Negotiate and Settle claims with the responsible party within the settlement authority
- Escalate claims of larger losses and exposure through the management chain in order to mitigate potential liability to ensure prompt resolution
- Ensure proper diary management on all claims
- Function as the primary point of contact
- Assist in the preparation and procurement of reports summarizing claims and recommendation to key parties.
- Assist in preparing and finalizing settlement documents.
- Work with in-house or outside counsel in preparation of case for trial.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills both oral and written
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and autonomously
- Strong judgment, sense of ethics and initiative
- Ability to make well founded decisions based upon detailed analysis of issues
- Ability to communicate calmly, politely, and efficiently
- Mature self-starter with ability to work with minimum supervision
- Adaptability, flexibility and strong decision-making skills;
- Ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other computer software programs in an efficient manner.
- Insurance, law and/or claims handling background an asset
Qualifications
- Collegial Degree in related field (i.e.: paralegal, risk assessment, logistics & transportation)
- Knowledge of claims management software
- Knowledge of the aviation industry and its operations
- A third language, written and spoken, preferred
