What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Darlington New Nuclear Project fleet operations, ensuring vehicles and equipment are available and cost-effective to support the construction and operational needs of the project. This role requires proactive planning, strategic procurement, and close coordination with project teams and alliance partners.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Manage, schedule, and direct maintenance and repair activities, equipment safety programs, and equipment utilization on DNNP to ensure equipment is operating safe and reliably.
  • Conduct periodic inspections on all equipment owned or rented for the projects supported is in good working order.
  • Implement department objectives and strategies to maintain an effective equipment program within the boundaries of department policy.
  • Track costs, utilization, extra charges on equipment and labour by third party providers to meet or exceed maintenance budget.
  • Act as a technical advisor to field equipment personnel to assist project teams in equipment selection and utilization.
  • Assist with equipment budgets and potential equipment purchases to meet budgetary goals.
  • Maintain communications with local equipment dealers and appropriate vendors.
  • Record and/or update data as needed within SAP and associated systems.
  • Ensure that vehicle maintenance and fleet administration programs are followed and actively participate in the development of new policies and procedures.
  • Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure strong communication and direction between local facilities and work sites.
  • Provide regular reports to project management on fleet status, costs, and progress.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for vehicle and equipment use.
  • Supervise and support drivers, operators, and fleet support staff.
  • Mentor and coach team members for safe and efficient practices.
  • Address performance issues and support staff development.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Secondary Education or equivalent is preferred.
  • 10 plus years of experience in fleet management, preferably in large-scale construction or energy projects.
  • Leadership and team management.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with SAP fleet and equipment management is considered an asset.
  • Computer literate in MS office products.
  • General Knowledge of construction practices (excavating, grading, paving, etc.)
  • Experience working in alliance or joint venture environment is an asset.
  • Ability to travel to local facilities and work site as needed.
  • Valid drivers license.
