The project is a landmark heavy civil infrastructure project in Ontario's Kawartha Lakes and Barrie regions. As a key part of the Arctic Over the Horizon Radar Program, the project includes significant on-site and off-site material movement activities, extensive earthworks, deep and shallow foundation construction, structural concrete works, and the delivery of multiple buildings and supporting infrastructure.

As part of this project, Aecon's Civil team is advancing nation-building infrastructure through a strategic partnership with Pomerleau and Stantec. Delivered through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery model, an Aecon-led joint venture is responsible for project delivery.

Reporting to the EHS Director, the EHS Advisor will be responsible for actively promoting a health, safety and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecons Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.

What You'll Do Here:

• Facilitate employee health and safety orientation, and site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
• Train supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
• Train employees in traffic protection, traffic control person, WHMIS, respiratory protection, and emergency response.
• Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Propane, etc.
• Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
• Conduct behavioral observations in the workplace.
• Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
• Develop workplace plans such as emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, and fall protection.
• Distribute safety materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Deliver safety presentations to clients.
• Promote the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients.
• Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
• Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.
• Inspect project facilities and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate activities of site safety coordinators.
• Work with the Claims Administrator to assist with workers' compensation claims and associated activities.
• Develop return-to-work and modified work programs.
• Conduct accident and incident investigations.
• Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
• Liaise with government agencies. Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
• Coordinate environmental issues.
• Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.

What You Bring to the Team:

• Minimum 3 years experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
• Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for Ontario.
• Strong knowledge of the WSIB.
• Strong knowledge of other regulations, e.g. WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances, and Smoking in the Workplace.
• Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive.
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work with others as a team.
• Valid drivers license.
• Availability to work on site 5 days per week.
• Travel to different locations as required.

The expected pay range for this role is $80,000 - $110,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
