What Is The Opportunity?

Aecon Foundations is a leader in the Canadian Foundations industry. From shoring systems to foundation piling of all types; Aecon Foundations brings the Aecon advantage to all of our market sectors and acts as a strong partner from project initiation, design development, field testing and execution.

Reporting to the Project Director, the Construction Manager/General Superintendent will play an integral role in managing the day-to-day operations of a major infrastructure, joint venture project in the Toronto area.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Oversee project safety performance and support field engagement through safety inspections and audits. Support Safety Advisors in any required safety investigations and ensure that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Director/Joint Venture Partners to deliver construction projects
  • Oversee the construction of sub terranean foundation work in an urban work environment
  • Schedule, plan and oversee execution of construction operations including manpower and equipment
  • Cost management and project controls
  • Manage and oversee the performance of key subcontractors to ensure work is executed according to project safety and quality standards
  • Manage key relationships with subcontractors, local unions and joint venture partners
  • Strong Understanding of commercial terms and subcontractor responsibilities
  • Ensures that all activity on the designated project is consistent with corporate and divisional strategic plans, business plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Resolves project-level legal disputes and escalate issues to Project Director.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

What You Bring To The Team:

  • Education to include technical college diploma or combination of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operational leadership role such as Project Manager, Construction Manager or General Superintendent
  • Construction experience working on heavy civil infrastructure projects, foundations and/or LRT
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical construction principles
  • Experience working with local unions, understanding of union agreements and labor law
  • Experience with planning and executing work while honoring safe work practices and quality standards
  • Experience with joint venture projects an asset
  • Experience in planning, scheduling, resource balancing for a variety of sizes of projects.
  • Experience with contract management, strong commercial acumen
  • Proven leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to resolve project disputes with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to inspire and foster an environment of cooperation between different departments and co-workers.
  • Ability to collaboratively work within both an office and site environment.
  • Sound computer skills MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Project required.
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and under pressure.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
