The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) is a supra-municipal organization with jurisdiction over the territory of Québec located north of the 55th parallel. The KRG is currently seeking to recruit a professional and motivated candidate to work in Kuujjuaq, in the capacity of;

Environment Specialist, Transportation

Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, Transportation, the Environment Specialist, Transportation will be working to ensure the compliance of environmental laws and regulations throughout the 14 airports and maritime infrastructures in Nunavik. More specifically, the Environmental Specialist will:

  • Provide assistance, expertise and training in environment in general for the 14airports and marinas.
  • Provide guidance to Transportation Department employees when an accidental spilloccurs at one of the 14 airports or marinas and participate in the management of thedatabase of contaminated soils, accidental and historical spill events, ongoing andcompleted remediation projects.
  • Conduct annual environmental inspections and audits in all KRG Airports andmarinas and provide recommendations on the appropriate applicable correctivemeasures.
  • Provide assistance and training with handling, storage and disposal of dangerousgoods and residual waste.
  • Implement environmental plans, policies, and standardized procedures to overseeoperational activities at airports and marinas and ensure regulatory compliance ofthe Transportation Department employees and activities.
  • Plan and participate in the implementation of environmental emergency action plansand plan environmental emergency exercises.
  • Participate to other environmental programs or committees including airport wildlifemanagement, marine protection, dust suppressant and glycol management;
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Required qualifications:

  • University degree in environmental studies or in a related field. An equivalentcombination of a strong educational background, technical training and relevant workexperience may be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a related field (environmental field work experienceswould be considered an asset);
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with limited supervision;
  • Strong teamwork and relationship management competencies;
  • Good understanding of Aboriginal issues and the North in general is considered anasset;
  • Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages:Inuktitut, English and French;
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Office);
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout Nunavik.

Place of work: Hybrid with travel to Nunavik
Salary:Min; $63,716.38/year, Max: $109,329.22/year
Other benefits: Travel expenses and accommodation paid while working in Nunavik
SPP: 6.25% employer,4% employee.
Group Insurance
Vacation: 20 days/year
Statutory Holidays: 20 days including 10 during Christmas holidays
