The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supramunicipal organization with jurisdiction over the Quebec territory north of the 55th parallel, is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the position of:

Assistant Land Use Planner

(Permanent full-time position)

Reporting to the Land Use Planning Coordinator of the Renewable Resources, Environment, Land and Parks Department of the KRG, the Assistant Land Use Planner’s responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide information to mining companies, scientific groups, outfitters, and the general public on the Kativik Regional Master Plan, the legal and regulatory framework, and the procedures applicable in the Kativik region;
  • Receive and analyze all applications for certificates, permits, or authorizations and, where applicable, issue said certificates, permits, or authorizations;
  • Carry out inventories and inspections on the land;
  • Participate in drafting summary reports;
  • Assist in the development and updating of a land-specific database and web platform for the region and the communities.
  • Collaborate in the design and planning of public consultation sessions;
  • Assist colleagues in the division with regional planning projects, as required;
  • Collaborate on environmental protection projects;
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Diploma of College Studies (D.C.S.) in urban planning and development techniques or an equivalent diploma in a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • At least one year of relevant work experience;
  • Experience working in an Indigenous or northern context is considered an asset;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and SharePoint;
  • Ability to use GPS and working with GIS software (ArcGIS, etc.) is considered an asset;
  • Excellent adaptability and organizational skills;
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Working knowledge (written and oral) of at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, and French;
  • Willingness to carry out field work using air transport (helicopter);
  • Willingness to travel to remote regions (Nunavik).

Work location: Kuujjuaq, Quebec

Salary: Minimum of $52,481 and maximum of $89,256 per year

Benefits:

Cost-of-living allowance: minimum of $8,500 per year;

Food allowance: minimum of $4,216 per year;

Annual leave trips: maximum of 3 per person annually;

RRSP: 6.25% by employer, 4% by employee;

Group insurance;

Vacation: 20 days a year;

Public holidays: 20 days, including 10 during the holiday season.
