Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre (SCSC) and Library Services, the Simulation Project Lead is a leader, consultant, educator, project manager, program coordinator, and innovator. This role is responsible for advancing simulation best practices, patient safety, and quality evidence-based care in education across the organization and beyond under the Education Portfolio.
In collaboration with the SCSC Manager, the Simulation Project Lead operationalizes and oversees educational, outreach, research, and innovation initiatives for novice to expert practitioners both within and external to SHSC, with a particular focus on the implementation, advancement, and evaluation of immersive and emerging technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR), and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). The role is responsible for coordinating project metrics and program evaluation activities, including surveys, data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis, performance measurement, and reporting. In addition, the Simulation Project Lead leads the implementation, adoption, and sustainability of immersive learning initiatives across the Centre, including the development and delivery of train-the-trainer programs, stakeholder engagement, educational support, and capacity-building activities to advance innovative approaches to healthcare education. The Simulation Project Lead is responsible for lead simulation innovative projects, outreach initiatives inclusive of developing, supporting, and sustaining beneficial partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Internal stakeholders include Program Leads, Educators, researchers, faculty, staff, and students. External partners locally, provincially, and nationally including the University of Toronto, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN), Canadian Arm Forces, Toronto Metropolitan University, York University, local to international academic institutions, and industry where appropriate.
Qualifications/Skills:
• University undergraduate degree preferred in a relevant field
• Must have min. 3 years’ experience in project leadership or similar role
• Must have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Forms
• Experience with immersive and emerging educational technologies, including VR, AR, XR, and GenAI-enabled platforms
• Experience with VR simulation platforms such as Lumeto InvolveXR, and with immersive hardware such as Meta Quest headsets or equivalent devices, is considered a strong asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of simulation-based education principles, including instructional design, simulation design, facilitation, debriefing, operations, and evaluation, consistent with healthcare simulation best practices.
• Must be proficient in written and oral communication skills to support our requirement to read, edit and compose correspondence
• Must be organized in approaching work tasks and able to prioritize effectively and multi-task
• Excellent self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently, while also demonstrating strong leadership skills in leading projects and supporting teams
• Must be very adept at exercising tact and discretion when dealing with highly sensitive and highly confidential issues
• Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and act independently using sound judgment when taking initiative on a wide range of issues
• Ability to recognize when direction is needed when there are competing demands, including time sensitive requests
• Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to work as a team member on projects
