Sunnybrook Research Institute is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support an ongoing clinical research project. This casual position is well suited for a Bachelor’s-level graduate with relevant experience and a strong interest in clinical data collection, REDCap database development, and EMR-based research.

 

The successful candidate will play a key role in building and maintaining a REDCap database using data extracted from Sunnybrook’s electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring accurate and high-quality data capture to support research objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain a REDCap database in accordance with study protocols and data requirements
  • Extract, review, and abstract clinical data from Sunnybrook’s EMR system
  • Perform data entry, cleaning, validation, and quality assurance checks
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries and supporting documentation
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of study data
  • Collaborate with investigators and research staff to address data queries and updates
  • Adhere to Sunnybrook policies, research ethics guidelines, and data privacy requirements

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Public Health, Clinical Research, Biostatistics), Master’s Degree an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with REDCap (database build and/or management)
  • Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical data abstraction
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage large datasets
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in hospital-based or academic clinical research
  • Familiarity with research ethics (REB), confidentiality, and data governance standards
  • Experience supporting data-intensive research studies
