Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is seeking an experienced and dynamic pharmacy leader to oversee the Odette Cancer Centre Pharmacy, including the T1 and M6 retail pharmacies and the Systemic Therapy Pharmacy. This role is central to ensuring safe, efficient, and patient‑centred oncology pharmacy services within one of Canada’s leading cancer programs.

 

Leadership & Staff Management

  • Provide leadership to a diverse pharmacy team, including pharmacists, technicians, students, and specialized coordinators.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
  • Fostering a cohesive, motivated team environment.

 

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure smooth daily operations across retail and systemic therapy pharmacies.
  • Oversee inventory management, prescription processing, systemic therapy order workflows, and customer service.
  • Monitor financial performance of cost centres and manage within funding envelopes.
  • Update medication management systems to reflect new therapies and procedures.

 

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant laws, standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance initiatives to support safe medication use.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for medication incidents and collaborate with Risk Management.

 

Education & Training

  • Lead orientation and ongoing training for pharmacists, technicians, residents, and students.
  • Support professional development and continuing education initiatives.

 

Collaboration & External Relations

  • Work with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to optimize patient care.
  • Liaise with Cancer Care Ontario, industry partners, and other hospitals on oncology pharmacy best practices and quality initiatives.

 

Qualifications

  • Required: Undergraduate degree in pharmacy.
  • Required: Part A Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Required: 5 years of relevant oncology related pharmacy experience.
  • Preferred: Previous management, supervisory or quality improvement experience

 

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of oncology practice, therapeutic choices, funding models, and pharmacy service delivery in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy information systems (e.g., Kroll), robotics, and IV validation technologies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
