Duration: 6-month contract to start

Location: Toronto, Hybrid 3x/ week on-site.

Our Payments Client is seeking a Sr. Data Architect to define integration strategy and cloud data platform blueprints across Snowflake, Databricks, and Azure. The client has an evolving data ecosystem with multiple platforms and needs someone who can zoom out from day-to-day engineering to provide a holistic architectural view - designing pipeline patterns, engaging security teams, and setting the strategic direction for data integration across the enterprise.

Responsibilities

• Provide a holistic architectural view of the client's data integration landscape across Snowflake, Databricks, and Azure
• Design and document pipeline patterns for file ingestion and table ingestion into Azure Blob Storage
• Develop and communicate data platform strategy and blueprints to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Engage with security teams to ensure platform patterns meet organizational security and compliance requirements
• Advise on platform tooling decisions and help rationalize the client's data technology stack
• Support the broader data engineering team by establishing architectural standards and best practices for modern cloud data platforms
• Collaborate with delivery leadership to align architecture decisions with project milestones and migration timelines

Must Haves

• 10+ years of cloud architecture experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP - Azure is preferred)
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Databricks data platforms
• Proven ability to develop data integration strategy, blueprints, and pipeline patterns (e.g., file ingestion, table ingestion into Azure Blob Storage)
• Experience engaging cross-functional teams including security, infrastructure, and engineering to align on platform standards
• Strong strategic thinking - able to step back from implementation details to assess the full integration landscape and recommend direction
• Comfortable moving fast in a team that values agility and pragmatic decision-making

Nice to Haves

• Data engineering background (hands-on experience before moving into architecture)
• Familiarity with DBT, ELT patterns, and modern data transformation approaches
• Banking, insurance, or payments domain experience
