Our Software Development client is seeking a: Lead Software Engineer to modernize trading platforms using C++, SQL, and AWS in the Pension Fund industry

Contract role in Toronto focused on leading modernization of legacy trading systems and contributing immediately with hands-on C++ and SQL development in a high-impact pension fund environment.

Must Haves

• 15+ years of experience in **C++**, **SQL**, and **AWS** for enterprise-scale systems
• Deep practical expertise in **SQL logic**, stored procedures, and performance tuning
• Proven ability to lead development teams and contribute immediately upon onboarding
• Strong background with containerized application deployment using **Docker** or **Kubernetes**
• Hands-on experience building resilient distributed systems and optimizing **transaction processing**

Nice to Have

• Experience with financial or trading platform modernization
• Knowledge of message queue architectures such as Kafka or SQS
• Exposure to cloud-native DevOps automation and CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of real-time data streaming and system monitoring
• Previous leadership in legacy-to-cloud transformation programs

Responsibilities

• Lead development of modernization initiatives for trading systems
• Develop, optimize, and maintain application logic using C++ and SQL
• Architect and implement cloud-native components on AWS
• Ensure scalability and reliability of high-volume transaction platforms
• Manage code integration, review, and quality assurance for team deliverables
• Deploy and orchestrate applications using Docker and Kubernetes
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to accelerate modernization efforts
