Job Title: Universe Designer

Duration: 4 months

Location: Downtown Toronto - Sheppard/North York (Atria). Preference for North York, but Waterloo is acceptable.

• Hybrid - expected onsite once per month for town halls and monthly team events (subject to change).
• Work Hours: Monday-Friday, flexible between 8:00-4:00, 8:30-4:30, or 9:00-5:00. Start time must be no later than 9:00 AM.

*Must be eligible for Reliability Status Clearance (must have been in Canada for last 5 years and not traveled for a period longer than 6 months at a time)

Role Overview

This is a specialized role focused on building the GRS (Global Retirement Services) Universe. The position does not involve data analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong experience designing, building, testing, and implementing SAP BusinessObjects Universes. The team is currently working with legacy platforms (including mainframe) and is transitioning components off mainframe into modern environments. Experience with ETL tools and data warehouse/BI ecosystems is important.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the initiative end-to-end (status updates, time tracking, coordination).
• Collaborate with business partners and DAOP to gather requirements.
• Build the GRS Universe.
• Test the GRS Universe.
• Create documentation.
• Support implementation activities.
• Train DAOP on the Universe (structure, potential changes, maintenance).

Required Skills & Experience

SAP Tools:

• BusinessObjects Universe Designer
• Web Intelligence Developer

Databases:

• SQL Server
• DB2
• Oracle and flat files

Experience:

• 5+ years hands-on IT Application/Technical Support
• 2-3+ years ETL experience (Informatica PowerCenter or IDMC - nice to have)
• 2-3+ years in Data Warehouse / BI environments
• Technical Knowledge:
• Strong understanding of SAP tools: Business Objects Universe Designer and Web Intelligence
• Ability to map technical SQL/data structures into business-friendly semantic layers
• Windows and Unix experience

Ideal Candidate Profile: Someone who has previously built Universes from scratch, understands semantic layer design deeply, and can translate SQL-based technical data into business terms. Experience in enterprise environments (SAP, financial industry) is preferred.
